The day started out at La Catedral de Seville: Sta. Maria de la Sede. And according to Bob it's ground hog's day...if he were in Sevilla we'd be golden...it's been pouring all day. The above is a pic of this gothic marvel taken along the ramps up to the top of the Giralda Tower.
Unlike some of the previous churches and cathedrals we've seen, this one has MASSIVE structural systems, including this column, whose size is clearly demonstrated by my partner in crime, Tom!
These are some pretty sparkly things that specifically made me think of Rachel Bailey...who would never leave the room due to all of the treasures that would distract her attention every time she thought to exit!
These pics are both from what I am calling "the red room" since I have no idea what it was actually for other than to be pretty...this cathedral was much more like a museum in an old palace than an actual place of worship.
This is a shot of one of the vaulted bays...which really doesn't capture the height the way I had hoped, but it is amazing just the same because of the details...I bet they are actually HUGE since they have to be seen at such large distances by the spectator at the Cathedral floor.
While we waited for Bob, Tom attempted to help me try the "sketchy" drawing technique in which I basically felt like a little kid. While it may give an emotive sense to the drawings unlike my wiggle/crossed lines, it screwed with the proportions and the reality of the thing--i mean, anything but the reality of the object is squewing the reality, but this may be further from it than what I had beforehand...I'll have to work on it.
After grabbing some lunch, Bob, Tom and I headed to Plaza de los Toros, the bullfighting ring, for a tour. Tom posed with Islera, the mother of a bull who killed the owner's friend...it is said that the greatness of a bull is passed through the females, so the man killed Islera so that his bulls would not do more harm.
